Principal's Message

Dear CME Family,

Exciting News:

While we know that “April's Showers Bring May Flowers” the month of April is also bringing some exciting news to our school on the mountain.  Following safety protocols and guidance from El Paso County Health, CME will begin planning for modified field days, a limited number of field trips and end of the year graduations and awards assemblies. While these events will be limited in size and scope, we are excited to once again have these opportunities to enrich our students’ educational experiences, provide fun ways to be physically active and to celebrate our Eagles’ accomplishments. If you receive information from your child’s teacher regarding a field trip,  a special outdoor activity or event at CME, please know that it aligns with district protocols and is being conducted with guidelines to help mitigate the spread of Covid.  While we still have a ways to go in being able to do all the school-wide activities that we have done in the past, we are one step closer and so excited for what we can do to end the year well with all our students.

State Testing Has Begun:

Our state testing has officially begun this week and our Eagles are working hard and giving their very best. Parents, thank you for your support in making sure that your child arrives at school on time and has a good breakfast.  If you would like your child to take the additional state assessment in English Language Arts or Math that is not given to the entire grade level, please contact our school office by 3:00 pm on Friday the 9th.

Progress Reports:

The week of April 12th progress reports will be sent home with our 4th-6th graders. Progress reports are a reminder that quality learning is still taking place during our final weeks of school. While 4th quarter gives us all a yearning for beaches, hikes in the mountains, theme parks and so much more, we still have a lot of academic ground to cover before the end of the year.  Parents, please partner with us to make the 4th quarter a success for all our students by encouraging your child to continue to give their best, making sure they are completing their homework and by ensuring that they are on time for school each day. With parents, staff and students working together, this time of year will be engaging, challenging, a little bit of fun and full of lasting memories for everyone!

Starting the Day Off Right:

Parents, thank you for doing all that you do every morning to make sure that your child arrives at school on time and is ready for a day of learning. My favorite part of the day is greeting all our Eagles in the crosswalk as they begin a new day at CME. Since returning from Spring Break, we have had many of our students arriving late to school. When this happens, students come to school rushed and feeling a little “out of sorts” as the day begins, plus a student coming in late disrupts the learning environment for all the other students who arrived on time. We ask that everyone partner with us to make sure that all our Eagles have an exceptional start to their school day by arriving at the CME nest on time and ready to learn.

Thank You!

Parents, as we enter the final few months of school, on behalf of the entire CME staff let me say, “Thank You!” once again for your continued support and encouragement throughout this very unique and, at times, challenging school year. Every step of the way, you have provided grace, understanding, an abundance of patience and never-ending support.  While we have had some bumps in the road, we have been able to stay in person for the vast majority of the school year because of you.  As I have said so many times and which I will continue to echo for years to come, our CME parents are the true secret to our school’s success. Thank you for making CME truly “SOAR!”

Have an Amazing April,

Eric Paugh
