Principal's Message

Dear CME Family,

Happy New Year! I hope that everyone had a wonderful Winter Break! Thanks to your support, time and dedication our 2nd semester has started off well with remote learning. Our students have shown up virtually every day eager to learn, to share and connect with their peers and teachers and to give their very best in completing their online assignments. We are truly fortunate to have such wonderful parents who have partnered with us every step of the way during a very unique and, at times, challenging school year.

Returning to In-Person Learning:

Parents, below are a few items to help assist our CME community in our transition back to in-person learning on 1/19/21:

  • If you borrowed a CME chromebook, you will be able to return it next Tuesday morning the 19th before school begins.  You or your child can bring the device along with the power cord to our school cafeteria. Just come in through CME’s main doors and our cafeteria is located immediately on your left. Please remember to social-distance.  Mrs. Dreyer, our tech specialist, will be ready to greet you and receive devices starting at 7:30 am.  Thank you for returning these devices as soon as possible so we can get them cleaned and back into our classrooms.

  • Be sure that your child returns to school with all their workbooks, textbooks, etc. on the 19th.

  • Art is back at CME! Mrs. Foster returns to CME this semester and is eager to get all our students creating masterpieces once again. In order to keep students from having to share art supplies, we are asking them to bring a few items with them next week. We sent out specific grade level lists last week but in case you missed that email, you can access the list on page 4 of the newsletter. If you have any questions, please reach out to our office team.

  • Please continue to help us stay in-person for as long as possible by daily monitoring your health and the health of your child. If you, your child or any other family member are exhibiting symptoms, please contact us immediately at (719) 576-3080.  If we all do our part, we can continue to keep our entire school community safe and well and our school doors open.  We are one day closer to coming through the other side of this pandemic storm.  Thanks for your continued support!

February Parent\Teacher Conferences:

Parents, this is just a reminder that we have only one day for 2nd Semester Parent\Teacher Conferences (February 19th). Teachers will be requesting virtual conferences for only certain students. However, please keep in mind if you would like to meet with your child’s teacher virtually on this day, they will be more than happy to accommodate your request.  Around the first part of February, be on the lookout for further details regarding Parent\Teacher Conferences and information from your child’s teacher letting you know if they see a need for a virtual conference on February the 19th.

Keeping Warm:

Even though we have had fairly mild temperatures for January, please keep in mind that we do live in Colorado, it is winter and colder temperatures are sure to be on the way. It is very important that your child comes to school dressed for the weather as well as for their comfort and safety. We try to make sure that we go outside as often as possible when the temperature is above 19 degrees and the ice is gone from the playground.  Our kids love a few moments of fresh air and exercise when they have dressed appropriately for it.  We also ask that when the weather is below 20 degrees that your child does not come to school in shorts. In the unlikely event that we would have to evacuate our school, students in shorts and/or without coats, etc. could face a very dangerous situation.  I know that mornings can and do get crazy packing lunches, backpacks, getting homework completed and so much more but please take a moment to make sure that your child is ready for whatever Mother Nature may throw our way.

Save the Dates:

While state assessments (CMAS – Colorado Measures of Academic Success) do not begin until March 30th, we want to provide you with plenty of advance notice because we know how crazy everyone’s day-to-day schedules can become with numerous events. This year students in grades 3rd-6th will test March 30th-April 1st and April 6th-8th. In addition, 5th graders will test April 13th-15th. We greatly appreciate your assistance in ensuring that your child is at school on time and that they are not picked up early on testing days.  We also ask that you try not to schedule appointments and vacations during the testing sessions.  We have no doubt that our Eagles will truly “soar” to new heights of achievement, thanks to your endless encouragement and support and the unwavering dedication of our outstanding teachers. We will provide further testing details in next month’s newsletter.

Parents, thank you again for all that you do! Let’s all hope that with the El Paso Covid Dial moving in the right direction, vaccinations being distributed and with everyone doing their part to honor social-distancing protocols that some day in the foreseeable future some of our CME activities and events will be able to return.

Stay Well,

Mr. Paugh
